While editing our YouTube channel on an iPhone, we accidentally deleted our newest music video, "Wonder." In a flash, thousands of views (and hundreds of dollars spent promoting) WERE GONE, and Google wouldn't restore them because we hadn't reached a certain status yet. The regret was REAL. Several thousand views are nothing for some, but for us fledgling creators, they were everything, and we hoped to build on them to prove our credibility (because our worth is based on views--JK).
We then re-uploaded the video, and tried to regain our numbers, but we had already promoted heavily in the ways we knew how so the new views only trickled in. Our beautiful, expensive music video just sat there on our channel, with minimal views, looking pathetic. (How embarrassing.)
HERE COMES THE SILVER LINING
Somehow, despite a meager view count, the adjudicators of the Utah Music Video Awards still found merit in our creation and selected it to win the BEST SONG AWARD! Camille and Melissa (pictured above with that adorable trophy), delightedly accepted the award on behalf of all of the Spark members (and our sound engineer, McKay Crockett and videographer/editor, Nick Sales). This story is proof that JOY truly does come after sorrow. (Keep reading below.)
BUT HERE'S THE REAL MORAL OF THE STORY
Losing video views doesn't mean much when compared to real-life pain and sorrow. Several of our group members have experienced the life-shattering loss of close family members to suicide. Others have experienced different types of losses, tragedies, and challenges (maybe just as painful). YET if you watch our "Wonder" music video, you will see authentic smiling faces and glowing, happy spirits--and this begs the question, "How can that type of JOY be experienced by these members despite their suffering through extreme loss and pain?"
The answer is given in a hundred different scripture references, but this one is all-encompassing "...In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John:33
Even in our trials, we know that the pain will end and that everything will be made right again because of Jesus Christ. All we have to do is love him, follow him, and try in every way to be like him. Jesus Christ is the source of true JOY.
WE CAN'T KEEP IT A SECRET
Granted, in our PC world, it can be intimidating to talk or sing about inspirational subjects, but don't we want everyone to know where to find JOY? For the past 2 years, SPARK has been sharing the message of JOY through Jesus with our music. At first it was scary to sing about Jesus (especially in our upbeat, not-so-traditional style), but we found out that people LIKE IT and relate to it! Old people, young people, people in the church we belong to, and people not in our church, have loved our high-energy songs and heart-felt messages about Jesus and about the love He has for everyone. We've received many comments from people expressing that they felt encouraged and happy after our shows.
This has brought us so much happiness, that we want to share our music and messages about Jesus and JOY with more people! That's how JOYCON (short for JOY conference) was born. Spark is co-producing the event because we want to fill big spaces with lots of people who come together to learn and laugh and unite in singing about what brings true happiness in this life and beyond.
JOYCON IS A NEW INSPIRATIONAL CONFERENCE FOR ALL AGES! This event is for individuals, families, and youth groups who want to learn the secrets to happiness, success, and well-being from top motivational speakers and inspirational artists. WE ASKED OTHERS: HOW HAVE YOU SEEN THE WONDER?
Keith Lionel Brown, lead writer for www.MormonMusic.org shared the following: "I have seen the wonder of God in my life as I share my God-given gifts to bring joy to others. I will cite just two examples. I have always had a love for the scriptures and a passion for for teaching. Over the years, I have been blessed to combine both as I have served as a teacher in several capacities at church including serving as a gospel doctrine teacher. Nothing gives me more joy than to share my knowledge of God's word and to witness His wonder as people in the class begin to understand His word as perhaps they have never understood it before.
I am also blessed as I listen and learn from the comments that are made about how people liken the scriptures to themselves. I have also been blessed to express my thoughts through writing. With the use of words I'm able to use a blank sheet of paper as my canvas and words as my paints to create art that people from near and far have expressed their appreciation for. One way I have been able to do this is by being the lead writer of a website called Mormon Music. I have been blessed to see the wonder of God at work in the lives of people both near and far that have expressed their gratitude for the site and share how the music that is featured touches their lives." -Keith Lionel Brown

"I HAVE NO GREATER JOY THAN TO HEAR THAT MY CHILDREN WALK IN TRUTH." 3 John 1:4
On this Father's day (and every day), we wish this kind of joy for all of our fathers and for our Father in Heaven!
Our new music video ties into this scriptural theme and gives a bold testimony of truth and the new perspective we gain when we find Christ and begin to walk in His light.
Throughout the song titled "Wonder," the question is asked: Have you ever seen the wonder? The song goes on to describe many of the ways that the wonder of God is manifest in our lives. Our amazing dads are among the greatest wonders/blessings in our lives and this video is dedicated to each of them: Scott Butler, Doug Wright, Destry Bybee, Rodney Moffitt, K.C. OUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT OUR MOMS
NOELLE: My favorite thing about my mom is how kind & selfless she is. She is always the first to make a meal for a neighbor in need, be a listening ear for those who are struggling, & give a hug for someone who needs love. She has set the perfect example to me of how I can be a wonderful mom someday!
JAXON: My favorite thing about my mom is her perfect example of faith. She has always been so strong in her conviction to follow the Savior, and has been such a good example in my life of what it means to be a disciple of Christ.
CAMILLE: My favorite thing about my mom is that she has always believed in me! It is because of her faith in me that I have reached goals and dreams that I thought unreachable. That belief lifted me through the discouraging times and helped me become the person that I want to be!
RYAN: My favorite thing about my mom is that she is up for most anything. She can take on any project or just let loose and be crazy and fun!
MELISSA: My favorite thing about my mom is her extreme faith. She commits herself 100% into whatever project God asks and doesn't hold back. She also has faith in me and that makes me want to live up to that expectation.
ANNIE: My favorite thing about my mom is how generous she is and how she's taught me to always care for those who are in need.
GREG: My favorite things about my mom are her commitment to God and her selflessness. I have always seen her make many sacrifices for me and for our family.

A CELEBRATION OF CHRIST
We are excited to release this music video on Easter and LDS Conference weekend. The lyrics, music, and images of Christ have touched our hearts and we hope they will do the same for you! (See the images from "Reflections of Christ" by Mark Mabry online at reflectionsofchrist.myshopify.com)
One of our favorite parts of this video is the audience sing-along where old and young alike are singing praises to the Savior in unison. We love that so many participated in this video! (Please TAG people you recognize in the audience in our Facebook post so they will see the video!)
STORY BEHIND THE SONG
"Sinking Deep" is a devotional song written in just 2 hours (both lyrics & music). Songwriters Aodhan King and Joel Davies wanted to write a song about the idea of sinking deep into God’s presence and His love for us.They said, “We prayed and the words just came out and it felt like it was God speaking to us.” The song portrays that in God’s presence you feel wide awake, you’re drawn by His grace, and you are stirred to change.

At a sneak-preview screening of the new "Meet the Mormons" vignettes, SPARK had the fun opportunity to sing the song Glorious, by David Archuleta. We also had the pleasure of meeting the families featured in the films "The Craftsman" and "The Horseman," as well as the writer and director, Blair Treu, and film narrator, Jenna Kim Jones.
The new (and final) films have been added to the "Meet the Mormons" franchise and are premiering Saturday, February 3rd at LDS Church visitors' centers and historic sites.
Quoting director Blair Treu, “Our hope is that the franchise continues to draw people to Temple Square and visitors’ centers, but the primary goal is that it continues to dispel common misconceptions that people have about us. As people get to know us a bit better, they get to feel, ‘Hey these people aren’t so bad. They’re not so scary. They’re just like me. They have shortcomings just like me and they’re searching for happiness just like me.’" Click here to see Deseret News article.

SPARK members, Angelina Whitehead and Ryan Johnson, sang the inspirational song “Brighter” for this music video filmed in NYC. Chosen for its fun dance beat and uplifting message, the song contrasts Christ's light with any other light we know. Johnson, a trained Hip-hop dancer says, "Times Square, with its thousands of LED signs, was the perfect backdrop for the message of this song. While dancing among the crowds, I kept thinking how lucky I am to know of God's light and love in this crazy, busy world."
It was a first-time visit to NYC for Whitehead, who was age 15 at the time of filming. She remembers, "We filmed in Times Square, on top of the Rockefeller Center, and next to the Brooklyn Bridge. Everywhere we performed, I contemplated the message of the song and how people might be receiving it. It was fun to sing about Jesus Christ in a huge city with mixed cultures and religious beliefs." Johnson added, "Unlike the city lights, the light of Jesus Christ is real, not artificial, and it will last forever and will never go dim. His light doesn't produce strobing excitement, rather, it produces peace, hope and perfect illumination for our darkening world. I hope when people watch our video it will give them a perspective of what is most important in our journey here. It's all about God, Jesus, and family."

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU!!!
As a throwback to SPARK's 2016 Christmas music video "When Hope Came Down," we wanted to spotlight our soloist, Alyssa Crockett, and show you the lovely place that life has taken her since that video was filmed.
When Alyssa sang about the Christ-child in the studio last November, she certainly had no idea that one year later, she would be cradling her own perfect baby boy. Looking at these pictures of Alyssa, McKay and baby Coby, we can't help but be reminded of the little family trio from the very first Christmas!
Though we miss Alyssa in the group, we know that her greatest contribution to the kingdom of God may not something she does, but SOMEONE SHE RAISES. Alyssa and McKay are doing a great job raising baby Coby and he is very lucky to have them for parents. #blessed #perfectfamily
“A new baby is like the beginning of all things--
wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities.”
When watching this video, it's fun to imagine that we might have been among those angels long ago who lifted up their voices to announce the joyous birth of the Savior. Whether or not we were actually a part of those heavenly choirs, we testify now, through this video (filmed high on a mountain ledge, with the perspective of angels), that Jesus is the light and hope of the world and he did indeed come down to earth to save us all!

Before SPARK was an official group, seven of the soon-to-be members participated in the making of a Christmas music video in December of 2015 for the song "Jesus Is Alive." None will forget the miraculous way that the baby Jesus was found at the last possible moment for the video. "Through spiritual means we were assured days before the filming that we would find a baby Jesus for the Christmas video, but we had no idea that it would come right to our door at precisely the right moment.” (Read more below.)
Watch the video here!
The story continues: "For weeks we had searched for a baby to no avail and were just finishing the filming of the indoor scenes when someone in our group noticed a baby in its father's arms through the exterior glass doors. We approached the father and asked to take a peek at the baby (who happened to be the perfect age and size for the part). When asked if he would like his child to be in the music video as baby Jesus, the father consulted with his wife and agreed. The baby is listed in the credits as 'Miracle baby from Payson' because of the prayers and pleading offered to find a baby for the video.” Click here to read full article published in the Daily Herald.
Through this experience and others like it in our lives, we learn that we can trust that Heavenly Father will always keep His promises--even if the answers come at what seems to be the last possible moment.
We want to wish you a beautiful Christmas season and hope that this song will add to your testimony that "Jesus Is Alive" and that in the words of the song, He is indeed "making all sad things untrue" through His miraculous atonement.

As part of an upcoming SPARK video, each member was asked to tell their story about their involvement in music and in the group. To give an example, our managing director, Sherri Whitehead, told her story and explained how SPARK got started. Since her story won't be part of the video, we thought we'd share it here. (Pssst! Be watching for the video this coming week.)
THE START OF SPARK
"I’m a dreamer and a planner. I have big ideas and I like to make big things happen through creative entrepreneurial ventures. At a young age, I started creating performing groups for youth. My passion for producing shows has continually expanded because I love the excitement and joy that singing and dancing brings to audiences. (For me in particular, the Spirit really speaks through uplifting music.)
Starting an inspirational performing group was something I always knew I would do, but I didn't know how it would start. When the time was right, and with the help of a great mentor, McKay Crockett, (and a lot of support from my husband Doug), SPARK came into existence last September. Singers with strong testimonies of Christ were drawn to the group and they began performing together with the goal of creating a movement for all ages to “rise up in faith and be a light to the world.” When we came up with the group name, we didn’t even realize all the ways that the name SPARK would actually define the work we are doing. Managing SPARK and producing the videos and shows has been very rewarding. I love that the music and the messages personally affect the members of the group as much as they affect their audiences.
As I said, I love making big things happen, and the big thing I want to see happen through SPARK is for many people to find Christ, or if they have already found Him, to grow closer to Him. I know that a life in Christ brings peace and security and changes hearts. It’s changed mine. I think He’s happy about what we are trying to accomplish through SPARK."
You can read Sherri's bio at this link: http://www.sparksingers.com/the-team.html
Below is a video clip taken during the filming of the video that shows the excitement of the group members.

BEHIND THE SCENES OF "BRIGHTER"
Recently, two members of SPARK, Angelina Whitehead and Ryan Johnson, were in New York City and filmed a music video to an upbeat praise song called "Brighter." The backdrop for much of the video is Times Square, where hundreds of LED signs make the night appear nearly as bright as day. Even with all the lights on Times Square, the song attests that Jesus shines brighter and that his love helps us overcome the darkness in our lives.
While filming, many spectators stopped to watch and marvel while Angelina and Ryan displayed their talents (with "Brighter" playing on a portable speaker) in Times Square and beyond. In one particular Brooklyn neighborhood, a very positive conversation took place with an Italian restaurant host on the subject of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He graciously agreed to appear briefly in the video and gave his email address so he could receive the video link. That small connection served to prove that there are opportunities all around to share light, and you never know the extent of the good that can come of it.
Along with Ryan, Angelina was accompanied to NYC by her parents and joined by former SPARK member, Nick Sales, who professionally filmed the video. Brandon Harms, a musician friend, also came along to offer cheerful support through outbursts of singing, subway navigation and help in packing around heavy camera equipment.
This trip to NYC is just one of many opportunities that SPARK members will have to sing upbeat praises to Jesus Christ and spread his light and love through their talents. Be sure to come to our upcoming shows to experience the joyful message of the gospel of Jesus Christ!
Using the words of Neill F. Marriott from the 2014 General Conference, in her address about "Sharing Your Light," we collectively testify that we have a living Savior, Jesus Christ, and with His power and light we will be enabled to push back the darkness of the world, give voice to the truth we know, and influence others to come unto Him.

MORE ABOUT SHARING YOUR LIGHT
The following are excerpts from the talk "Sharing Your Light" by Neill F. Marriott:
President Thomas S. Monson pointed out, “If you want to give a light to others, you have to glow yourself.”
The scriptures teach, “That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light.”
We must continue in God, as the scripture says. We must go to the source of light—to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and the scriptures.
We can also go to the temple, knowing that all things within its walls point to Christ and His great atoning sacrifice.
I testify we have a living Savior, Jesus Christ, and with His power and light we will be enabled to push back the darkness of the world, give voice to the truth we know, and influence others to come unto Him.
We are excited to announce our new SPARK members very soon, but today, the "tie-in" with this photo is of a spiritual nature.
WALKING TO THE EDGE OF THE LIGHT
Considering the great turmoil in our world all around us and certainly the personal struggles we all encounter, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has stated, “It is the plain and very sobering truth that before [and after] great moments, certainly … great spiritual moments, there can come adversity, opposition, and darkness”
But opposition doesn’t mean that Heavenly Father has abandoned you. He is there, and He will guide you. Sometimes we must move forward in faith until our way is illuminated.

BECOME A LIGHT...
“Our opportunities to shine are limitless. They surround us each day, in whatever circumstance we find ourselves.”
In moving forward with our quest to encourage young and old to rise up in faith and be a light to the world, we want to share this related message from President Thomas S. Monson, given during a devotional at Brigham Young University.
Of the 50 definitions that the dictionary offers on “light,” President Monson said that his favorite definition is “something that illuminates.”
Speaking of the Savior and His Atonement, President Monson said that although members of the Church come from various backgrounds, “we have in common the gospel of Jesus Christ. … It is our responsibility to share the truth with others. … Ours is the responsibility to keep our lights bright for others to see and follow.”
But first, in order to become an example of the believers, President Monson said, we ourselves must believe.
GAIN A PERSONAL TESTIMONY
Among the most effective ways to gain and keep the faith, President Monson said, is to read and study the scriptures and to pray consistently.
“Have you read the Book of Mormon? Have you put to the test the promise found in Moroni 10:4? Have you asked if the book is true?” President Monson said.
“Set aside time every day to find out for yourselves if the Book of Mormon is a true book, for it will change your heart and change your life,” President Monson said. “I promise that you will receive an answer.”
BECOME A BEACON OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
“As we follow the example of the Savior, ours will be the opportunity to be a light to all we meet,” President Monson said.
Speaking of those who reflect the light of righteousness, President Monson said that the special spirit felt around such people makes others want to associate with them and follow their example. “When we encounter them, they are a powerful influence, for they radiate the love of the Savior and help us feel His love for us.”
“You will become a beacon of righteousness, even a light for all to see. Said the Savior, ‘Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven,’ ” President Monson said.
REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE
Referencing an exchange between Simba and his departed father, Mufasa, from Disney’s movie, “The Lion King,” President Monson said, “Look inside yourself. You are more than what you have become. Remember who you are.”
He continued by saying, “You are a son or daughter of our Heavenly Father. You came from His presence to live on this earth for a season, and to live in such a way that you are an example of the believers and a true light to the world.”
“Just think of how much good can come to the world through our collective lights and let the gospel radiate through us,” President Monson said.
SEEK GOD'S ASSISTANCE
With the decline of religion in our society, President Monson noted that many people think they have no need for a higher power and do not hearken to the counsel of God. “They suppose they know it themselves,” President Monson said noting that it is easy to fall into erroneous thinking— that we can handle anything that comes our way and that we don’t need God’s assistance.
Remember, he said, “We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”
He quoted the Apostle Paul, who admonished in 1 Timothy 4:12, “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity…”
President Monson concluded by saying, “May we always be known as followers of Christ and as such, become as lights in the world.”

LIGHT OF THE WORLD
We found this beautiful image and the description below on the site of artist Howard Lyon: http://www.howardlyon.com/religious-store/light-of-the-world
“I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” -John 8:12
This simple passage of scripture defines much of what it means to be Christian. To follow Christ means a life of compassion and service. It does not mean that there will not be heartache or trials. It does not mean we will not stumble and fall. Hardship is part of life, but Christ, through His atonement will be there to clear the path back to the light, bringing hope to an imperfect people trying to be better.
